Why Can’t I Reach Some Leads on X?

If you’re noticing that some leads can’t be contacted, don’t worry—you’re not doing anything wrong. This usually comes down to X’s built-in messaging restrictions and a bit of smart filtering on our side to protect your campaigns. Let’s break it down!

1. X’s DM Restrictions (Out of Anyone’s Control)

X tightly controls who can receive direct messages. Even if an account looks active and relevant, DMs are automatically blocked if the user has:

  • Closed or restricted DMs

  • Private accounts that don’t allow messages from non-followers

  • Messaging disabled entirely

Verified-only DMs enabled (only verified accounts can message them)

When a lead has any of these settings enabled, messages simply can’t be delivered—this is enforced directly by X.

2. Automatic Filtering (Working Behind the Scenes)

Before sending any DM, our system runs a two-step check to ensure messages only go to reachable users:

Step 1: Excluded List Check

We remove any prospects that appear on your excluded lists, so you don’t accidentally message users you meant to avoid.

Step 2: DM Reachability Check

We filter out users who can’t receive DMs due to X’s restrictions.

This means unreachable leads are removed before sending—saving your limits and improving campaign performance.

3. Common Types of Unreachable Accounts

We automatically filter out accounts that are unlikely or unable to receive messages, including:

  • Inactive, deleted, or suspended accounts

  • Private accounts with restricted incoming DMs

  • Users who have opted out of messaging or disabled DMs

This helps keep your outreach clean, effective, and compliant.

4. Daily DM Limits Still Apply

Even when leads are reachable, X enforces daily sending caps:

  • Pro plans: Up to 500 DMs per day to new contacts

  • Follow-ups: Don’t count toward this limit

Filtering ensures you don’t waste those daily sends on accounts that can’t be reached anyway.

Why This Is a Good Thing

All of this filtering is intentional and beneficial. It:

  • Protects your campaign performance

  • Prevents wasted sends

  • Keeps your account compliant with X’s messaging policies

What You Can Do If Too Many Leads Are Filtered

If you’re seeing a high number of unreachable leads, try:

  • Importing fresh or more active audiences

  • Reviewing and cleaning up your excluded lists

  • Targeting users who are more likely to have open DMs
