Understanding Reachable vs. Unreachable Leads

When you’re running DM campaigns, leads fall into two simple buckets: reachable and unreachable. Knowing the difference explains why some messages land perfectly… while others never make it past the gate. Let’s break it down!

Reachable Leads

Reachable leads are the green lights of your campaign. These users can receive your DMs with no issues at all. They:

  • Have open or allowed messaging settings

  • Permit DMs from non-followers (or already follow you)

  • Are active and in good standing on X

In short, these are the people your messages can actually reach, read, and respond to.

Unreachable Leads

Unreachable leads are automatically filtered out because X won’t allow DMs to be delivered to them. This usually happens when users are:

  • Inactive, deleted, or suspended

  • Private accounts that restrict incoming messages

  • Users who have disabled DMs or opted out of messaging

  • Accounts with closed or restricted DM settings (like verified-only DMs)

Even though these profiles may still exist, their settings act like a “Do Not Disturb” sign for DMs.

Why This Distinction Matters

Separating reachable from unreachable leads helps make sure that:

  • Your messages only go to users who can actually receive them

  • Your campaign delivery rates stay strong

  • Your outreach stays compliant with X’s messaging rules

By filtering out unreachable leads automatically, your campaigns stay focused, efficient, and effective—no wasted sends, no guesswork.
